Late-summer through autumn is a truly special time of year in Sonoma wine country – the culmination of the year-long growing process. With warm days and cool, crisp evenings, nature’s own rhythm gives away its bounty as harvest season begins and the surrounds transform into a symphony of colors. Grapes are picked from the vines then crushed for the year’s vintage and olives are plucked from the trees and milled to extract olive oil. Even beekeepers join in the fun and ultimately take part in their own version of “crushing” the comb after harvesting honey from the hives; the comb can be enjoyed in various culinary delights. This is the time of year to relish vineyard walks, spirited harvest events which are on offer throughout the destination and – ultimately – enjoying the beautiful crimson and golden-hued leaves that cover the landscapes as the vines begin winding down toward winter’s slumber.
