At the turn of the 20th century, Laguna Beach existed at the edge of the known world—reachable by dirt road or sea. Its untouched coastline, rare clarity of light, and contemplative isolation drew pleinair painters seeking more than subject matter: they sought atmosphere. Artists like William Wendt, Frank Cuprien, and Edgar Payne painted directly from life, embracing imperfection, weather, and time. In 1918, they formalized this shared spirit by opening Laguna’s first art gallery—an act of quiet defiance and enduring vision. This cocktail menu honors that legacy.
