Just a scenic 90-minute drive east is the unique micro-climate of the Temecula Valley, the “Napa Valley” of Southern California. Fifteen wineries dot the landscape, most with tasting facilities where you can sample some of the region’s finest wines.
Not all of Laguna’s fascinating residents are of the two-legged variety. Animal lovers will find a wealth of opportunities to meet and learn all about these California natives of both land and sea.
PACIFIC MARINE MAMMAL CENTER
A rescue and rehabilitation center for sick and injured seals and sea lions. Open daily for visitors from 10 am to 4 pm. Admission free/donations welcomed.
DANA POINT HARBOR
Known as the whale watching capital of the West, Dana Point Harbor offers a variety of boating activities, as well as great dining and shopping. An ideal destination for the entire family.
ORANGE COUNTY ZOO
The Orange County Zoo is nestled in the heart of beautiful Irvine Regional Park. Tucked among coastal live oak and sycamore groves, this eight-acre zoo displays flora and fauna from the southwestern U.S. Whether for a relaxing day spent under the oak trees or a fun and educational excursion, the O.C. Zoo makes a great destination when visiting Orange County.
THE OCEAN INSTITUTE
The mission of the Ocean Institute is to inspire all generations, through education, to become responsible stewards of our oceans. On weekends, the institute is open to the public for a sneak peek into how ocean science, history and literature are used to inspire life-long learning. On weekdays, students participate in innovative and award-winning educational programs.

Just a stone’s throw from the Pacific Ocean, this race track opened its gates back in 1937. The man at the turnstile collecting tickets that day was none other than the original laid-back Californian himself, Bing Crosby. Crosby and several of his Hollywood buddies conceived of a horse palace by the ocean where you could play all-day, party all night and leave all your cares behind. That light-hearted spirit remains today.
