Lei Making-Shadow

Lei of Aloha

The lei has been a symbol of Aloha for many and in this lesson, you will be introduced to the history and story of the lei. Our Cultural Ambassador will guide you through creating a lei kui, a needle and thread method.

Family Hula Experience at Montage Kapalua Bay

Hula Lessons

For centuries the hula has been used to show respect and share the stories of Hawaiian deities. Through hula, dancers tell the stories of their heritage. In this class you will learn basic hip, foot and hand movements that accompany the words that describe the elements.

ukulele

Ukulele Lessons

Tuesdays & Fridays | 10:00am & 1:00pm

The stringed instrument was introduced to the Hawaiian people by the Portuguese and was adapted by the Hawaiians to the ukulele we know today. Queen Lili`uokalani referred to “uku” meaning gift and “lele” meaning to come; therefore ukulele was “a gift that came.” In this class you will be taught how to hold and finger the ukulele as well as the basic chords.

Lauhala Weaving
