Montage Palmetto Bluff Debuts New Paintbox Children’s Program and Experiences Inspired by South Carolina’s Lowcountry
Bluffton, S.C. (April 15, 2026) – Montage Palmetto Bluff further solidifies its reputation as a premier destination for family-friendly vacations in the Southeast with the unveiling of a new building for the brand’s signature children’s program, Paintbox, with enhancements to its beloved programming, allowing young guests to experience the natural beauty and culture of South Carolina’s Lowcountry. The reimagined offerings introduce a fresh array of thoughtfully curated educational activities, designed to keep children ages 5 to 12 engaged throughout the day, while giving parents time to relax, reconnect, and enjoy the region on their own.
“We are excited to usher in spring by opening the doors to our new Paintbox program, giving children a place of their own to experience the wonders of our resort and the region we call home,” said Jon McGaunn, general manager of Montage Palmetto Bluff. “With its blend of supervised activities designed to spark joy, Paintbox remains a pillar of our family programming and a draw for our guests with children each year.”
A commitment to preserving and celebrating Lowcountry culture is at the heart of Montage Palmetto Bluff’s ethos. Set within the 20,000-acre community of Palmetto Bluff, between Hilton Head Island and Savannah, Georgia, with miles of shoreline and scenic trails through pristine maritime forest and tidal creeks, many of the activities at Paintbox are curated through the resort’s Naturalist Program. Developed by the hotel’s Resident Naturalist, Cassie Critchlow, alongside the Palmetto Bluff Conservancy, experiences highlight local flora, fauna, and wildlife, as well as the significance of sustainability and environmental preservation. Daily activities at Paintbox include Nature Walks, Intro to Fishing, Lowcountry-Inspired Imaginative Play, Meet & Greets with Montage’s Canine Ambassadors, Regionally-Inspired Crafting, Wilderness Explorations, and adventuring to two treehouses set on the expansive grounds of Palmetto Bluff. Every Friday and Saturday evening at Montage Palmetto Bluff is a ‘Children’s Night Out,’ featuring games and activities after sunset, alongside select ‘Movie Nights’ with family-friendly screenings.
At the core of Paintbox is Montage Merits, a brand-wide offering modeled after scouting that inspires kids to become masters of their experiences by rewarding them with destination-specific ‘merit badges’ to commemorate their visit and ensure lasting memories of their stay. At Montage Palmetto Bluff, pins vary from spotting dolphins in the May River, to roasting s’mores with family or horseback riding at Longfield Stables.
Paintbox now stands on its own in the Inn’s Backyard, adjacent to the resort’s Sunrise Lawn and the Inn Family Pool. Spanning 960 square feet, plus an additional 240-square-foot screened porch for sun-protected, fresh-air activities, the space is designed to inspire, with custom murals depicting scenes from the local ecosystem that bring the natural beauty of the region to life, hand painted by Lowcountry artist Ashley Wester. A retail component offers stuffed animals, educational arts and crafts, and branded Montage Palmetto Bluff children’s merchandise available for purchase.
Paintbox is available for guests of Montage Palmetto Bluff ages 5 – 12 years, with half-day or full-day offerings from Tuesday – Saturday through the year:
- Half-Day Morning Session / 9:00am – 12:30pm / $150 per child
