Well Living is a celebration of the diversity of life and the people and connections that make our lives full. As we welcome in another new year at Montage Palmetto Bluff, we are excited to further honor the rich heritage and history of our distinct region.
To begin the year, we look to focus on our roots, celebrating the foundational role the local communities play in shaping the cultural identity of the Lowcountry. Through curated experiences and partnerships, we aim to create an authentic connection to the past, reflecting where we come from and the strength of our roots.

Artistry in Octagon
7:00am – 10:00pm, Inn Library
Artistry in Octagon celebrates the vibrant connection between local art and cuisine. Each quarter, a new artist will be featured in the lower dining section of Octagon, bringing the beauty of the Lowcountry’s fields and waters to life. As you dine on dishes inspired by the land, explore the artist’s work and let their creations tell the story of this rich, natural landscape.
For the months of January – March, as we focus on the Roots of the Lowcountry, we are pleased to host local artists Janet Scarbrough & Ellen DiFazio, who both celebrate the spirit of the Lowcountry through their work.
Janet, a mixed-media artist, explores a diverse range of subjects that resonate with the Lowcountry’s vibrant landscapes, traditions, and stories, making her work a reflection of the area’s multifaceted character.
Ellen’s inspiration directly ties to the nature of the Lowcountry. Her goal of bringing enjoyment and awareness to our world’s beauty aligns with the region’s deep appreciation for its natural heritage and desire to preserve and celebrate it through creative expression.

Join us for the inaugural dedication of Artistry in Octagon, a celebration of the vibrant connection between local art and cuisine. From January through March, the gallery highlights Roots of the Lowcountry with works by Janet Scarbrough and Ellen DiFazio, whose creations beautifully reflect the region’s natural splendor and heritage. Savor Lowcountry-inspired hors d’oeuvres and champagne as you mingle with the artists and explore their stunning art.

Cooking Unplugged: Grains of the Lowcountry

Unplug from the hustle of daily life and reconnect with the simpler things in life with our Cooking Unplugged monthly series. Led by our Executive Chef, this January class celebrates the Roots of the Lowcountry as we explore the rich flavors of red rice, okra, and local shrimp in partnership with Rollen Chalmers of Rollen’s Raw Grains, a local farmer with generational ties to Palmetto Bluff. Discover the heart of Lowcountry cuisine while savoring the joy of being fully present.

Workshop: Making Sweetgrass Coasters

Join Michael Smalls, a 7th generation basket-sewer, and his protégé Dino Badger for a two-hour instructional workshop where attendees will have a hands-on lesson in making their own sweetgrass coaster. Sweetgrass items hold a special significance in the Lowcountry due to their distinctive coiling technique and the deep cultural heritage they share with the Gullah Geechee people.
